The goal of SilencerResourceCenter.com is to bring useful information about silencers
(more properly termed “sound suppressors”) and the lawful use of silencers to individual
shooting enthusiasts as well as to armed professionals.
We intend to accomplish
this mission by publishing new articles on silencers and related subjects of interest
written by an international group of authorities, by providing the latest industry
news from around the world, by providing an archive of important out-of-print articles
and books from around the world, by providing affordable advertising opportunities
to silencer manufacturers and other relevant product sources, and by providing and
links to companies and websites of interest. We also intend to offer specialized
products of interest to the shooting enthusiast and armed professional. We plan
to add restricted–access articles on tradecraft and technologies for the armed professional.
This
restricted material will only be downloadable by registered, authenticated military
and law enforcement personnel from NATO countries (including the United States).
Members of federal alphabet agencies in the United States are also eligible. Other
armed professionals may be allowed access to this restricted area if we receive
official written approval on letterhead from the ambassador or military attaché
of the U.S. embassy in that country.
Finally, we would like to make SilencerResourceCenter.com
a clearinghouse of silencer-related information. We encourage people to share the
lessons they have learned, be those lessons appropriate for the public or restricted
areas of the website. See
Guidelines for Contributors to learn how you can add your own experiences to this world-wide clearinghouse.
Many thousands of law-abiding civilians purchase silencers for personal use every
year in the United States and around the world. In those countries where silencers
are readily available and unregulated, one sees only socially responsible usage
and none of the poaching or more sinister behavior that people with unreasoning
fear of shooters in general—and silencers in particular— fear. Furthermore, interest
in sound suppression by the military and law-enforcement communities is growing.
In fact, interest among both civilians and armed professionals is growing at an
exponential rate. Current publishing outlets simply cannot keep pace with either
the growing interest or the wealth of product availability.
A huge information gap
exists. End-users need to know about products and manufacturers. Manufacturers need
to reach potential customers. Many manufacturers have never had an article published
about their work, much less had regular coverage. This has to change.
Traditional
publications cannot devote enough space to sound suppression to satisfy the huge
demand for information. They simply must cater to their target demographics to be
financially viable. This is particularly frustrating because the marketplace abounds
with interesting silencer companies and sound suppressors.
This is not an indictment of any magazines. Each has its own niche and its own environmental
constraints.
The only way to break the bonds of those constraints is to provide
an information transfer and archiving system outside the normal bounds of publishing.
The goal of SilencerResourceCenter is to provide a complement to those magazines
publishing good silencer articles by publishing additional new articles written
by silencer authorities from the four corners of the earth, publishing the latest
industry news, showcasing new products via articles and advertising, providing a
source for new and out-ofprint books on silencers, and providing an archive of accessible
articles published by established authors and scientists from around the world.
We will not, however, provide information on how to build silencers. We intend to
provide one-stop shopping for information on the lawful use of silencers.
Some material
will be available for free and some will require a small fee to help cover the high
cost of programmer time, website storage and bandwidth for the continually growing
database of stories, data tables, and printable-quality color photos. Some of the
fee will help cover an author’s time and research expenses. The part free, part
feebased SilencerResourceCenter.com website is our attempt to serve everyone from
the mildly curious, to the average sport shooter, to family oriented recreational
shooters, to the student of small-arms history, to the armed professional who must
use a product where the metal meets the meat.
